Yukata Project (2025)

The Yukata Project is a mother-daughter collaboration centered on a series of handmade yukata and masks. As part of a live performance, I projected footage of the U.S. government's incarceration of Japanese American during World War II.  We worked alongside fellow artists, as part of the Santa Fe Art Institute’s​ Community of Practice residency program (2025). Breaking bread, hiking, and viewing art together, we held discussions about challenges we faced with our socially engaged work.  Most pressing for us: how to respond to ongoing ICE raids across the United States and other systemic forms of erasure and injustice.

This work is also inspired by Tsuru for Solidarity and other acts of resistance, and is ongoing.
